Many are going to be quick to dismiss this as simply a quirk of a fringe figure who otherwise would have no serious repercussions for the NDP or Canadian politics. This is unfortunately untrue, and instead is part of a larger pattern of disturbing behaviour from politicians who seek to take control of how the public perceives and talks about the crime of genocide to suit specific political agendas that potentially stand to become lucrative causes to support.
